The normal value of the platelet count, plateletcrit, mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width of Koreans with the Coulter Counter Model S-Plus.

Abstract
|
|
|
The importance of establishing authentic normal hematological values in Korea has been emphasized.
The last decade has seen a proliferation of automated multi-parameter haematological analysers. These instruments had been concerned only with red and white -cell measurements until automated platelet counting developed. Even with this degree of automation, platelet counts still could not be achieved on whole blood, prior separation of platelet either by lysis of red cells or by preparation of platelet rich plasma being an essential first step.
The Coulter Counter Model S-Plus is 12parameter hematological analyser using whole blood. This analyser provides further information on platelet size distribution and volumetric proportion such as plateletcrit, mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width.
Author studied for obtaining of normal value of platelet count, plateletcrit, -mean platelet volume and platelet distribution width with Coulter Counter Model
S-Plus in healthy Koreans.
The following results are obtained.
1. Normal value of platelet count is 243.99±101.86 (±2SD)%
2. Normal value of plateletcrit is 0. 190±0. 070 (±2SD)
3. Normal value of mean platelet volume is 7.76±1.48(±2SD)fl
4. Normal value of platelet distribution width is 9. 18±1.74(±2SD)
